Forest Adventure

ROUTE: Szubin (Market Square) – Mączkowskiego Street – Smolniki – Kowalewo – return via the bike path from Kowalewo to Szubin – Castle ruins – Wesółka

We set off from the town market square in the center of Szubin. We head towards Łabiszyn and, near the old water tower, slightly turn right onto an internal road (Mączkowskiego Street). We continue toward the viaduct that crosses the S5 road in the direction of Kowalewo. After about 1 km, at the forest parking lot located along the main road, turn right.

We continue straight on the asphalt road through the forest, arriving at the forest rest area in Zielonowo near the Forester’s Lodge. We proceed straight toward Kowalewo and reach a cross at a fork, which we pass. Heading for the viaduct that crosses the S5 expressway, we then turn right onto a forest dirt path that leads back to Szubin.

Near the inactive PKP railway station, we turn left and cross the Gąsawka River along chestnut-lined avenues. We pass the Słoneczko Kindergarten and the “Mała Jedynka” Primary School, then veer slightly left to pass the ruins of a burned-down medieval mill. On the left, we see the ruins of the Pałuki Castle. We continue straight along avenues running alongside the river, passing allotment gardens and the municipal marketplace. After crossing the bridge, we enter the forest and reach “Wesółka,” which served as the city’s cultural arena during the interwar period.
